Born and raised in Hong Kong, cellist Hsin Hou Sun (Richard) is currently attending Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University Bloomington for Doctor of Music degree (Cello performance) in the studio of Emilio Colón. Sun is the 2021/2022 recipient of the Irving & Lena Lo Scholarship Fund. He received degrees and trainings from Longy School of Music of Bard College with Terry King and Frost School of Music, University of Miami with Ross Harbaugh. He had performed in masterclasses for Paul Katz, Darrett Adkins, Desmond Hoebig, Philippe Muller, Fred Sherry, Natasha Brofsky, Yehuda Hanani, Roger Tapping, Ulf Schneider and the Simon Bolivar String Quartet. Festivals participations include the Castleman Quartet Program (2015), fellowships at Texas Music Festival 2016 and 2018 (Principal Cello for Hans Graf) Last winter, Sun received coaching from Bright Sheng on the Seven Tunes Heard in China at the University of Michigan. He has performed chamber music on stage with members of Cleveland Orchestra and Houston Symphony. Sun is a passionate cello teacher and an avid advocate of performing classical music at public areas such as local libraries, subway stations, coffee shops, nursery homes and business district. He also enjoys cooking and photography.
